Families, health professionals, charities and MLAs in Northern Ireland came together to launch the McCollum Report in 2012.
The report, which is supported by the All Party Group for Muscular Dystrophy, highlighted gaps in care standards in Northern Ireland and put forward 15 recommendations that would not only save money in terms of emergency hospital admissions, but would also greatly improve the quality of life of people with neuromuscular conditions, living in Northern Ireland.
To date very few of the recommendations have been implemented but families, Muscular Dystrophy UK , who provides the administrative support for the All Party Group, and Action Duchenne continue to put pressure of the HSCB to ensure all recommendations are implemented as expeditiously as possible.
